Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival

We’re passionate supporters of the Bendigo Blues & Roots Music Festival, a highlight on the Bendigo music and events calendar. A number of artists performing at the festival stay at Stay Social. It was such a thrill to have some of our favourite bands Lily and King, and Emilee South stay with us when they performed at one of the Blues & Roots fundraiser gigs earlier this year. That’s the great thing about the festival - not only is it one big event ... Read more

Stay social – a food hub first

Our house was full of very passionate and talented guests who took part in the first Australian Food Hubs Conference. They took time out give a chook a cuddle and to inspect our wicking bed vegetable gardens in the back yard. After two huge days the first Australian Community Food Hubs conference was deemed a resounding success by many accounts. Bendigo is a strong player in the food systems of the future and we know that all of our community can benefit ... Read more

Stay Social and the Big Give

We recently contributed to a number of worthy causes as part of the Big Give - a day for fundraising in Central Victoria for local community groups, sports clubs and not-for profits. Our donations helped Bike Bendigo’s plan to join the Open Street’s campaign, to build gardens beds at the Bendigo Sustainability Group’s office and to replace an emergency support vehicle for the Golden Square CFA. Bike Bendigo Big Give fundraising money has contributed to Bendigo’s first Open Streets event held on Saturday 29 October. ... Read more

Eat Up – Making sandwiches for school children

Stay Social were delighted to host 32 volunteers from Eat Up Australia, who in 45 minutes made over 1,000 sandwiches, as organised by The Greater-Good Project. The volunteers delivered the sandwiches to all 12 Bendigo primary schools for children who for whatever reason come to school without lunch. Also supported by Bendigo Foodshare and OzHarvest Melbourne.     It’s hard to believe, but there are many young Aussies who go to school each day without any lunch. Without food, concentration is compromised. Which means learning is compromised. Which means ... Read more

Reflections on Marilyn Monroe Bendigo

What an experience it was to attend the first public session of the Marilyn Monroe exhibition in Bendigo on Saturday. We arrived at the Bendigo Art Gallery five minutes before the opening time and found ourselves joining a long queue of people waiting in anticipation for the doors to open. As I waited in the queue I wondered what the exhibition would be like. There’s certainly been a lot of hype and we’ve been caught up in it a bit ourselves since we ... Read more

Marilyn Monroe Bendigo

The Bendigo Art Gallery and Twentieth Century Fox Marilyn Monroe Bendigo exhibition is on 5 March to 10 July. This is a not to be missed exhibition, a first of it's kind with items gathered from different locations all over the world. We attended a recent talk by Bendigo Art Gallery's curator Tansy Curtin. She talked about many of the unique items including a dress Marilyn Monroe wore whilst performing to the troops in Vietnam. This dress is privately owned by ... Read more

An Interview with Guest Rob Dawes

We recently caught up with one of our regular Stay Social guests Rob Dawes, to find out why staying at Stay Social works so well for his business travelling needs. 1. Tell us a bit about your job and why you travel to Bendigo? I choose to live in Adelaide where my partner and my two boys live, but there are limited job opportunities in senior management within the agribusiness sector in Adelaide. This means I travel a lot – over the ... Read more
